OCZ Technology 60 GB Vertex 2 Series SATA II 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (SSD) Drops to Under $100

October 11, 2011 by Jim Fitzsimmons in Deals, Hard Drives with 0 Comments

It had happen eventually, and the time is here: Solid State Drives are affordable. It was only a few years back, that SSD drives would max out at about 8GB or so making the solid state technology just for  the wealthy or early adopters, but now the time has finally come where you can buy a cheap solid state hard drive that you could actually use in your notebook computer, or even a desktop computer too  and in some cases, it could replace your original hard drive in your computer completely.

Best SSD DriveThe OCZ 60GB SSD  Drive has dropped in price to under $100

The OCZ 60GB SSD drive you see here has dropped in price to under $100, and if you wait long enough will probably get cheaper just like RAM does. As the demand for  SSD drives increase, the market price for either this 60GB  and even larger sizes will continue  to drop.

But if you wait to buy a SSD drive, you’ll miss out on the performance that solid state technology brings. Solid state drives are essentially big USB flash drives and there’s lots of sites more technical focused than mine that will compare the best SSD drives for 2011, but I just like to shop online and I found this deal on an affordable solid state drive and thought I would share:

Technical Specs for the OCZ 60GB Vertex 2

Technical Details

  • NAND Flash Components: Multi-Level (MLC) NAND Flash Memory, Interface: Sata 3.0Gbp/s, Form Factor: 2.5 inch slim design
  • Life Expectancy: 2 million hours Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF), Reliability: ECC: 27 bytes of redundancy per 512 bytes of data
  • OS Compatability: Windows XP 32/64 bit, Windows Vista 32/64 bit, Windows 7 32/64 bit, Linux, Certifications: RoHS, CE, FCC
  • Max Read: up to 285 MB/s, Max Write: up to 275 MB/s, Sustained Write: up to 250 MB/s, 4k Random Write (Aligned): 50,000 IOPS, Seek Time: 0.1ms
  • Power Consumption: Idle: 0.5 Watts, Active: 2 Watts, Performance Optimization: TRIM (requires OS support)
The OCZ Solid state drive is compatible with the MacBook  Pro as well as other notebooks from Dell, HP  and Sony notebooks that all could benefit from a $100 upgrade to make your everyday computing go faster, especially when it comes to tasks that depend on swapping lots of data from the hard drive, the speed of the solid state hard drive really increases notebook startup times as well as other tasks that rely heavily on the drive for data transfer.
The 60GB OCZ SSD is one of the best selling solid state hard drives for 2011, in no part thanks to the fact that it’s one of the cheaper solid state drives you can buy this year and one  of the very first name brand ssd’s that could actually replace your original hard drive with a much faster hard drive at a cost less than $100.

Hey, thanks for stopping by. I hope you had fun, killed time at work or whatever else you intended to do. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments. Of course, my main objective has always been to get you the best prices on memory upgrades but for everything else I find that Amazon is hard to beat when it comes to the lowest prices on pretty much everything else – I ask that you support ramseeker by shopping at Amazon for the best prices on all the other items you may need.
