When Will The MacBook Pro 2012 Release Date Be?
The Apple MacBook Air is the Mac Portable To Buy in 2011 as we wait for the release of the 2012 MacBook Pro
It’s October already as I write this and if it were earlier this spring, I would have said that hands down, buy a new MacBook Pro today as they are fast and well designed notebook computers featuring fast processors. And with the capability, unofficially at least - to accept 16GB of RAM.
The biggest question you may have had back then earlier in 2011 was which MacBook Pro Do I Buy? With 5 different models of MacBook Pros, such as the cheapest MacBook Pro out of the bunch, the 13inch MBP to the desktop replacement 17 inch MacBook Pros these new Apple notebooks came in enough different sizes and price points that there would be a MacBook Pro for every need.
And then time slipped by and this summer we saw the release of new Apple iMacs in May, the MacBook Air refresh in July, and the Mac Mini update happening in July too. And suddenly, the once fast and fresh MacBook Pros lost a little bit of their lustre.
If you need to buy a Mac Desktop computer, the Mac Mini is the cheapest Mac you’ll see this year and is fast enough for most every day calculations, and even with the added cost of a monitor and keyboard and mouse, the Apple Mac Mini is still cheaper than an Apple iMac.
Then there’s the MacBook Air models, and if you’re in the market for a new MacBook Pro, you may want to consider these lightweight and fast notebooks instead of buying a MacBook Pro as they are currently the lightest and fastest notebook you can buy from Apple.
But what if you don’t want to buy a desktop Mac, as you need something portable and the MacBook Pros that were released in 2011 are looking a little dated. This leaves you with three choices:
1. Buy a 2011 Apple MacBook Pro
2. Wait for the 2012 Apple MacBook Pro to be released.
3. Buy a 2011 Apple MacBook Air.
I can’t really recommend that you buy a brand new MBP today as the new 2012 MacBook Pros are probably right around the corner with release dates rumored to be as early as this fall, but my guess is you’ll see a completely new MacBook Pro in 2012 that offers a new look (kiss the CD player goodbye), less weight with more RAM and SSD solid state drives as standard.
History has showed us over the past decade that January at MacWorld has been the release dates for previous generations of Apple Pro notebook models with a few refreshes in the fall, but my guess is that the MacBook Pros will not been until the new year in 2012. Apple has just released a brand new Apple iPhone and iPod lineup, and a new iCloud and iOS is in the works this fall as well. They have more than enough products that are current to separate you from your money. The new MBP’s can wait until the new year.
Apple has relied on essentially the same design for their MacBook Pro and yes, they have made improvements in screen technology and thunderbolt parts, but it’s my opinion that the newer MacBook Pro versions will be souped up MacBook Air models.
One thought would be to offer a 13 inch and 15 inch MacBook Pro with faster processors and more RAM than the air models and leave the 17 inch MBP design alone, as this Apple notebook is often used as a desktop replacement where one may need a CD Drive and all the ports you can muster.
All this to say: If you’re asking when is a good time to buy a MacBook Pro, now is not the time. I would wait and see what the 2012 MacBook Pro models look like before you buy a Mac notebook in 2011. If you need to buy a new Mac notebook today, you might be better off with the MacBook Air and then replace the Air with the new MacBook Pro from 2012 when the time comes if you feel the need to upgrade.
I do know I will be writing on my 2008 MacBook Pro until I see what Apple has in store for us for 2012. I don’t think that buying a 2011 MacBook Pro is a good deal right now.

Save $50.00 off the ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH72 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Ultrabook
This is one of the first deals I have seen on a the new Ultrabook category of notebook computers. At $50 off I am sure there will be better deals in 2012 on Ultrabook notebooks but for the time being, a $50 savings is still a pretty good deal this thin and lightweight ultrabook from Asus. Originally priced at $14499.99, the sale price on this ultrabook by Asus represents a $50 savings and $1399.99 sale price
One of the big deals about the Ultrabook noteooks is the size vs weight ratio. You still get a full featured notebook computer but without having to slug around a big and bulky notebook computer and the Asus Zenbook comes in at a very light 2.87 lbs, about half the weight when you compare it to cheaper notebooks on sale. The other factor is hard drives in the Zenbook. More traditional notebooks come equipped with standard hard drive technology, whereas this Asus ships with faster SSD hard drive technology. At 256GB, this may not be enough hard drive space for you as even the cheapest notebook on sale today will ship with more hard drive space. But, the Zenbook does offer the advantage of no moving parts in the solid state drive technology in addition to a much faster performance than average hard drive can handle. Tie the light weight, fast SSD hard drive and fast 2nd Generation Intel Core i7-2677M Processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.9Ghz) and you’ve got a very fast and yet light weight notebook computer from Asus on Sale.
ASUS Zenbook UX31E-DH72 Memory Upgrades
Despite the fast processor, fast hard drive and even light weight, one area where the ZenBook fails is when it comes to RAM upgrades. As shipped this lightweight ultrabook from Asus comes with 4GB of DDR3 RAM installed, which is fine, but considering the fast processor and hard drive and the fact that even on sale the Zenbook costs over $1000, you’d think Asus would be able to offer more in the way of a memory upgrade. The good news is you can double the RAM on the Ultrabook for very little when it comes to cost, as all you have to do is buy an 8GB RAM upgrade from one of many memory stores and you will be doubling your ram for very little. Below are the cheapest RAM for the Asus Ultrabooks.

Save Close To $200.00 off the ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-AH71 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop
This is the biggest notebook deal I have found yet when it comes to price disounts. It’s also one of the more expensive notebook computers I have come across from a Windows PC notebook thus far. Be warned, the deal on the ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-AH71 is a hefty discount but even after the discount this notebook is still priced more than other notebook computers. If you just want a cheap notebook for facebook, this isn’t the notebook for you.
You can tell by the name on the notebook, the ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-AH71 is a notebook computer designed with gaming in mind, and the combined power of a second generation Intel®Core™ i7-2670QM CPU and NVIDIA® GTX 560M GPU with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM mean this is not your grandmother’s notebook computer - this is designed for high speed gaming. The 16GB of RAM included with 4 memory upgrade sockets available mean you could effectively add up to 32 GB of ram into this high end notebook assuming you were to buy 16GB memory upgrade kits, and the 750GB 7200RPM hard drive is also faster than most cheaper notebook hard drives which tend to operate at 5400RPM. And the big 17.3 inch LED display is the perfect size for either a very fast desktop replacement and gaming machine combined.
ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-AH71 Memory Upgrades
This notebook is one of the few notebook computers on sale today that already ship with a good amount of memory installed, so if you need to add more RAM you can, as there are four memory upgrade banks on this notebook computer – one of the few notebooks on sale today that can handle this much memory.

Windows 7 Home Premium and a 4.5 hour battery life sweeten the deal on this Acer notebook computer on sale.
Acer AS5755-6828 Memory Upgrades
This particular Acer notebook computer comes shipped with enough RAM to get some stuff done, such as facebook or light email use, but for full and best performance on this Acer laptop you’re best to upgrade the notebook RAM to 8GB by replacing the 4GB Acer Memory Kit with RAM double the size – an 8GB Acer notebook DDR3 RAM Upgrade. RAM upgrades for Acer notebooks are cheap right now, and the best upgrade you can do right now is to double the RAM to 8GB, and in some cases, this can be done for under $40.00 after rebate. Save $170.00 off the Samsung Series 3 NP300V4A-A01 14-Inch Notebook Computer.
As far as deals on notebook computers go for the Christmas 2011 shopping season, this is one of the biggest notebook deals I have come across to date. Even though the suggested retail price on this fast 14 inch notebook is $649.99, you can save now and buy it on sale for just $479.99. That’s a $170 discount and results in a 26% off regular price.
The Samsung Series 3 NP300V4A-A01 is not only smaller and lightweight when compared to bigger and bulkier notebook displays, but it is also pretty fast too. The technical specifications on this notebook on sale today are actually pretty impressive for a laptop on sale under $500 and comes equipped standard with an Intel Core i3 Processor, 4GB of DDR Memory pre-installed, a 640GB hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium right out of the box. The six cell battery offers technology by Samsung that keeps the battery state fresh even after a few years of use, so you won’t have to worry about the battery dying on you down the road.
Samsung Series 3 NP300V4A-A01 Memory Upgrades
The one thing I do need to mention about this notebook, despite the great price it’s on sale for is that the memory can, and should be upgraded to the maximum memory allowed, which is 8GB of RAM, efffectively doubling the RAM on your brand new Samsung notebook. The more ram will allow you to keep more applications open give your notebook more room to breathe and the processor from Intel won’t have to be so taxed regardless whether you’re just checking facebook or doing more serious work like photo editing or working with video. And look how cheap Samsung memory has become – at these price you could buy a brand new Samsung notebook with modern processor, fill it with RAM and still not be out of pocket much more than $500.00.

Verizon Wireless Login Help
I’m new to the USA – at least when it comes to being a new customer to cellular service. Early in 2012 I plan to marry my US fiance after completing the sea of paperwork but as we’re older we have already started to merge our finances and one way we did this was by signing up for a Verizon wireless smartphone family plan for the both of us.
She, of course being in the US already had a smartphone through Verizon, while I was back in Canada with an iPhone from Rogers Wireless. After a bit of research we found that we could both call Canada and each other with the purchase or activation of a Verizon wireless Canada Nationwwide Family Plan that would allow us not only to talk to each other, but in the new year allow me to still call friends and family back home in Canada.
Using the Verizon Wireless Website
We ordered the phones online (we settled on the Motorola Droid 3 as Verizon had a buy one get one free sale) and setup our 2000 minutes of nationwide account with 1000 text messages and a 2GB data plan. The 2000 minutes are shared with my wife to be, and the other stuff applies to each line.
Once we activated the phones, i realized what a better user interface is when compared to the Rogers mobile website in Canada. There are so many things you can do when logged into the Version Wireless account. Verizon wireless, or My Verizon is broken into five different sections allowing you to manage your account for your mobile service from Verizon with ease.
MyVerizon Wireless: My Bill
This section of the my verizon site is all about your bill, and there’s options to view cellular usage for each line, view your monthly verizon wireless bill, pay your verizon wireless bill , and even setup autopay for your verizon bill too.
Verizon Wireless My Plans and Services
Changing minutes, text or data, changing features, changing friends and family, Manage Verizon Safeguards, or Manage Verizon VZ navigator are all possible in this section of Verizon My Verizon.
Verizon Wireless: My Device
Here you’ll be able to Upgrade your device, activate or switch device, add a new device, backup your contacts, reset your voicemail password, manage ringback tones and more. One feature I really appreciate is that verizon will tell you how much longer to go in your 2 year contract you have to go before you’re eligible for a device upgrade.
Verizon Wireless: My Messaging.
From here, you can send a text message, send a multimedia text message, check text message status, and manag text alerts to your preferred setting.
Verizon Wireless: My Profile
Under this section of your account you can do administrative stuff like change your email address, your physical address and view your verizon documents online.
This My Verizon website is one well designed cellular service provider ‘s website, or at least when you compare the cellular service between USA and Canada when it comes to being able to do a lot of stuff yourself without having to contact Verizon for simple stuff like changing your account details or paying your Verizon Wireless Bill.
Creating a Verizon Wireless Account
It’s been a while, but if I recall all I had to do was to register for a Verizon Wireless account and then choose a password and username that I could easily remember. With all the passwords for all the different sites you need today, you may want to check out an account or password manager to keep track of all your online passwords.
Once the account is created you can log in to Verizon wireless anytime to manage your Verizon wireless account, and if the time you forgot your password or even user ID verizon will happily help you with getting a new password or reminding you of you username in the case you forget your Verizon wireless username.
I haven’t had the chance to try the sites from the other USA cellular providers but if they are as any good as the Verizon Wireless My Verizon site they have some stiff competition when it comes to keeping their cellular customers happy online.
If you have a Verizon Wireless phone, it’s worth it to take the time to create a Verizon wireless account.
What is the Apple Support Number?
One of the best ways to get your Apple support issues resolved is to forget calling and go take yourself to an Apple Store if you need any help with your Apple notebook computer, regardless of warranty status. If your Mac is in warranty then the good folks at Apple will help you and in some cases, even if your Apple product is out of the limited warrant for your Apple computer or other product like iPod or iPhone. Apple stuff is expensive, but in most cases you get good support when you have a need to Call Apple directly:
How to Call Apple Support
One of the best ways to find out about Apple support is to visit Apple directly where they can help you determine whats support you need, but if you do prefer to Call Apple, call Apple at 800-275-2273 and they will be happy to help you.
This support number is applicable to any product currently covered under Applecare for:
Mac and Software
Apple TV
iPod
More Apple Support Numbers
For Apple iPad support, call 1-800-275-2273
For Apple iPhone support, call 1-800-694-7466
There are other contact numbers for iTunes and the iTunes and other products from Apple, but these are the Apple Support Numbers for the main hardware products from Apple computer. Call the appropriate number above for your Apple product and they will be happy to help you with your Apple support questions.
How To Perform an Apple Warranty Check
I like to save money and have been saving you money on ram upgrades for some time now, but another way to save money on an Apple of any kind, be it an Apple iMac or MacBook Pro one way may be to buy a used Mac. One of the benefits of Apple computers, is that despite their high price when compared to comparable PC’s from HP or some other manufacturer running windows is that they hold their value and if you shop on eBay or craigslist you may be able to buy a cheap used Mac.
And I know, that in my experiences shopping online that most times the seller of the older Mac just wants to get some money for their old Mac and replace it with a newer model or perhaps they need the cash for something else, and a lot of times they state that there’s warranty on the Apple computer left, but how do you know for sure?
Get an Apple Warranty Check
One reason i prefer Apple over other PC brands, is that despite the high price that the Apple products demand, Apple offers some of the best support in the computer industry and one example is this:
To check if the Apple computer you already own or are considering buying is in warranty is to go to Apple and check,
All you need to do this is the serial number of the computer and the country you are in and Apple will return to you a custom report on the status of the Apple computer you are considering buying. When you have this info you will be abl to tell if the seller of your possible Apple purchase is on the up and up, and even if your possible Mac is out of warranty, you will be able to see what your options are when it comes to either getting the Mac repaired.
A two second visit to the Apple support page could save you possible problems with your used Mac purchase down the road.
When Will Apple Release an iMac Update in 2012?
I wonder, is this the end of the Apple iMac? I hope not, as the Apple iMac is one of the best selling desktop computers in the past from Apple, but with the release of the iPad, new MacBook Pro’s rumored to be released soon, and the fact that lightweight ultrabooks and even smartphones are more popular than ever before I wonder how, and more importantly when Apple will release new Apple iMac computers in 2012?
The current 2011 Apple iMac models saw a release date back in May, meaning as we enter a new year, the once new iMac isn’t so high tech anymore and I am hoping for the 2012 iMac to be released with the following features:
1. Touch Screen iMac . The iPad has touch input, and so does the iPhone, so why not the 2012 iMac? I wonder how much of a feature this would be used on a desktop computer? Would it be beneficial to be able to use a touch screen iMac for the everyman? (and woman). One thing I think that would be beneficial for a touch screen iMac would be for shopping and scrolling, and I bet the graphics community would love to be able to use a finger instead of a mouse.
2. More Memory. The ram on the iMac for 2011 is already at a respectable 16GB, but I predict that by the end of the yea 16GB for iMac willl be the norm, and 32GB would allow for future expandability.
3. Faster Processors. The iMac could replace the Mac Pro entirely if the processor speed, ram and hard drive specifications would increase. We haven’t seen a Mac Pro update in ages and in fact, it’s been so long that I wonder is there will be a brand new Mac Pro at all or will Apple rely on the Pro notebook lineup for all their professional customers.
4. Flatter screen. If Apple can make a notebook that only weighs a few pounds, surely they can make the iMac better looking. It’s still a pretty thin machine, but the current iMac design needs a refresh.
5. Bigger Screen This is another possibility. With LED prices continuosly dropping, it would make perfect sense for a 32 inch iMac that doubles as a TV. and offers built in TV capabilities – something like Google TV where you could use the iMac as your media center, and not just the hub.
When will the 2012 Apple iMac Release Date Be?
The last time we saw a completely new iMac design is last May, and I can’t expect that we will see a new Apple iMac before May 2012. There’s a very good chance for a brand new MacBook Pro to be released in 2012. Then there’s the iPad and early spring tends to be the time for iPad releases. The iPhone has historically been released in the summertime and then we’re into the fall for iPod releases or other surprises from Apple for the holiday shopping season. This leaves May 2012 to be a very good chance to see a new iMac release in 2012 and would be one year from the release of the 2011 Apple iMac. – a good time to replace the 2011 Apple iMac with a newer 2012 iMac.
What is the Best MacBook Stand?
Even though the MacBook has been discontinued for over a few months now, the MacBook tradition still continues in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in 2012 and as these notebooks become more and more popular over time, one area I have paid more attention to in recent times is to make sure I have the most ergonomic and comfortable desktop or workspace I can, and one way to do this is to prop up your MacBook with a MacBook Stand.
There’s two schools of thought when it comes to buying a MacBook stand. One is to get the MacBook out of the way and use the processor only. Using a mac notebook as a desktop replacement can be not the most effective method to use your desktop space and I find that the space behind your MacBook ends up being a no mans land for hard drives and other junk. But, if you buy a MacBook stand, you can prop up your MacBook and connect it to an external mouse and keyboard (USB, or bluetooth) and monitor and have much more desktop space.
Closed MacBook Stand
The Twelve South MacBook Stand is just one example of this:
This is one of the better looking stands for your MacBook Pro and yet still offers full access to all the external ports you may need to access for monitor, USB, etc.
The downside of this design of stand for MacBook is that although it gets your MacBook Pro out of the way, you lose the screen real estate of the MacBook Pro. Heck, you may as well buy a Mac Mini and save over a thousand dollars if this is where your MacBook Pro will reside most of the time.
The advantage of this MacBook stand is obvious from the photo though, as it get your MacBook out of the way and frees up a whole lot of desktop for your monitor, or files an folders or even a coffee.
Another advantage using a MacBook Stand is that whatever style of stand you end up buying, these things prop up your MacBook and reduce the diet coke effect where you spill on your brand new MacBook Pro, which is a very expensive lesson to learn, but with a stand, your fancy Apple notebook is saved from splils.
Elevated MacBook Stand
This is the cheaper MacBook Stand of the two designs, and the Griffin Elevated Macook Stand comes in on sale at about half the price of the twelve south unit above.
The advantage of the elevated design of this stand is that you can still use your monitor if you so choose. You could still use this elevated stand and keep your MacBook closed too if you prefer.
But the whole point of this stand is to get your MacBook screen at a more elevated angle to reduce neck strain. In most cases, notebook design is lacking and will leave the notebook user looking down on the notebook screen, which over time can become uncomfortable.
The disadvantage of the Griffin stand, and other elevators is that you are limited to the height of the stand, and whether it’s just personal preference or that you have a taller or shorter desk or seating arrangement, is that despite your best efforts your MacBook just may not be at the level you desire. if the stand is too low, you can still prop up your MacBook stand with a few books or something but if the elevated stand is too high, I found the only solution with this type of stand is to remove it all together.
The Best and Cheapest MacBook Stand
These are becoming harder and harder to find as the digital age evolves, but I have found that propping your Macbook up on a phonebook or two is one of the better way to elevate your MacBook to the best level for your needs and the best part is that phonebooks are free. If you use phonebooks from different cities, you can tweak your tower or books to get a custom stand for your MacBook without the added expense of buying a custom MacBook Stand
Buy The Acer AS5560-Sb256 15.6 Inch Notebook for Under $400
The best price point for the winter of 2011 and into 2012 for notebook computer deals tends to be the under $400 category and this may just be the very best notebook on sale under $400.00 today. The Acer AS5560-Sb256 is one good looking computer when you look at specifications compared to other notebooks on sale in the under $400 category
One of the first things that caught my eye is how this is one of the very few notebook computers on sale to include a quad core processor. In the case of the Acer AS5560-Sb256 this translates to an AMD quad-core A6-3400M Accelerated Processor 1.4GHz with TurboCORE Technology up to 2.3GHz . If you’re in the market to buy a 15.6 inch notebook then this may be one to consider. 4GB of RAM is installed at the factory for the Acer notebook and if you’re just facebook surfing and the like, then this is enough memory for the quad core acer notebook. A 500GB hard drive is enough storage space too, you may be able to buy other 15 inch notebooks with bigger hard drives but for the price this is still a great deal on a notebook computer from Acer. Lastly the Acer comes with Windows Home 7 Professional and offers a six cell battery with up to four hours of battery life.
Acer AS5560-Sb256 Memory Upgrades
4GB DDR3 RAM is what ships standard on this quad core notebook under $400, but to really max out the performance of this Acer notebook you should consider upping the memory to 8GB or even 16GB for maximum performance. Your new Acer will run much faster with the new memory upgrade and as you can see RAM for this Acer notebook has never been cheaper.
